Even though the winter saw an increase in the number of auto insurance claims filed by consumers, resulting in longer repair times, a new report finds consumer satisfaction remained steady.
Data from J.D. Power and Associates found customers' satisfaction with their auto insurance claims during the final quarter of last year received a score of 855 out of 1,000 - roughly the same as the mark of 854 from the previous quarter.
The firm said the level performance was encouraging, given that the average length of time it took for consumers to get their repaired car back rose from 7.8 to 8.5 days over the same period.
"Auto body shops handled the increased repair volume well, and insurance companies did a good job of keeping their customers informed, which helped manage customer expectations," said Jeremy Bowler, senior director of the insurance practice at J.D. Power and Associates.
Average auto insurance rates are also going down. A report issued last month by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners found that the average annual auto insurance cost dropped to $785 in 2009.
