Colorado auto insurance rates may be on their way down, as for the second year in a row, Fort Collins has been labeled America's safest driving city.

According to Allstate Insurance Company and its annual "America's Best Drivers Report," Fort Collins was given top honors because automotive collisions there remain common. For example, while the average driver is involved in a motor vehicle accident once every 10 years, the typical Fort Collins motorist experiences one once every 14 years - a 29 percent difference.

"Each year we hope the report will increase awareness on the importance of being tolerant and attentive behind the wheel," said Mike Roche, executive vice president of claims at Allstate. "We want to recognize the city of Fort Collins for again being the safest driving city in America, and we salute all of America's safe drivers, who help make our communities better places to live, work and raise families."

Other safe cities were Boise, Idaho; Lincoln, Nebraska; Chandler, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama.

While the rate of accidents was particularly low in these cities, crashes nationwide have diminished considerably within the past few years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
