Dear J.R.,
This is a common occurrence for residents living on the coast. You can visit www.floodsmart.gov and find the risk area for your home address. The risk level of your home will determine the rates that you qualify for. For more specific information on flood insurance rates in your area, contact your home insurance agent. Learn more about specific coverage by visiting our flood insurance information page.
Good luck!

Mike,
Congrats on the new wheels. Most home insurance policies will cover your bicycle. However, limitations may be placed on the replacement value in the chance it is stolen. As with any new purchase, be sure to take pictures, keep receipts and let your home insurance agent know of the purchase. This is a good time to ask about your deductible and the specific coverage you are eligible for. For more information visit our tips on preventing bike theft.
Happy Riding!

We get this question all the time. Insurance discounts seem to be shrouded in mystery- oftentimes homeowners don’t even know about them until they find out that they qualify. Insurance discounts are credits given to a homeowner that may actually lower their rate because their home is safer, or less prone to accidents and damage.
Here at homeinsurance.com, we believe you should know how to make your home safer and less prone to damage. So we are going to spill the beans- give you tips to make your home safer, and possibly even help you save even more money on your home insurance.
1.Lump it Together- Multi-policy discounts are an EASY way to reduce home insurance costs. (At homeinsurance.com you can save up to 15%!) Ask your home insurance agent about combining your auto and home insurance and see what type of rate you can get.
3. Update! If you live in an older home, think about updating the electrical, plumbing, heating and/or roof. The cost of preventative maintenance is always lower than the cost of increased home insurance premiums after a house fire or flood from a burst pipe. Home Insurance companies smile upon updated mechanical systems as they are safer, and make your home less prone to damage.
4. Alarms- Install a security alarm system. Home Insurance companies like to know that your home is protected from burglary and you may qualify for a lower premium because of this upgrade.
5. Another way to save money by making your home safe? By utilizing the tips above and keeping your home in good condition you will help to reduce the occurrence of claims filed. Unfortunately some things are out of our control, but reducing the the risk of the things we can control may yield additional savings. Many home insurance companies offer a claim free discount for homeowners that remain claim free for a designated period of time.

Dear Homeowners,
Just a quick post today folks but thought this was worth of sharing. We had the privilege of emailing with Carolyn Gorman, Vice President of the I.I.I. (Insurance Information Institute), yesterday about the importance of shopping multiple companies for home insurance. Since we do this service for our customers for free, I thought I would share her advice:
“Insurance is a very competitive business, and taking time to shop around will result in you getting the best price as well as the best customer service.”
Good news is, at homeinsurance.com the agents shop multiple companies so you don’t have to. Their goal is not just to sell you a policy- but to sell you the best home insurance policy they can find. And, it’s free to you- no catch, no strings attached. Not a bad deal…

Dear Patti,
Sorry to hear about your mold problem! Unfortunately, mold is not generally covered under a standard home insurance policy as home insurance is designed to protect you against sudden incidents and accidental damages as opposed to cleaning and maintenance issues. In your case, a leak in your sink would be considered maintenance and would probably not be covered. However, in the case of mold caused by a burst pipe (due to freezing) or a flood, there may be some coverage. (As always, you should contact your home insurance agent directly for specific information on your policy as it may differ from a standard policy.) Read our article Moisture Can Hurt! Keep your Home Mold Free for tips on mold prevention and remediation that our agents have put together for our customers.
Thanks!

Dear Julie,
Congrats on the purchase of your new home! Unfortunately, yes, there is a lot of information out there on the web today about home insurance: some credible, some not. Good news is, you have an entire team of licensed agents here to answer your question:
A standard home insurance policy typically includes six basic types of coverage: dwelling, additional structures, personal property, loss of use, personal liability protection and med pay. Keep in mind that while a standard policy does usually include these coverages, they are all limited to the specific coverage amounts included in your policy. You can learn more about each type of coverage by visiting our Standard Home Insurance page. If you would like some help determining how much home insurance you need, or information on how our agents determine the amount of coverage to recommend for you, visit our page on Determining Your Coverage Amount. Or, if you’d like to speak with one of our agents directly for specific advice on your policy, contact us here.
Hope this helps Julie! Please let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.
