Hi I have a question about jewelry and home insurance- I lost my wedding band while doing yardwork this weekend and have not yet found it. Is this something I can claim on my home insurance? -J.F. Holyoke, Mass.

Dear J.F.,
Sorry to hear the news! While your ring is probably covered under your home insurance policy, there are limitations to how much jewelry coverage you will have.  Most standard policies will cover $1000-$2000 for jewelry, which is after, of course, your deductible is applied.  All in all, you will need to decide if the net result will be worth the effort or not. For the future, I would consider specifically scheduling your ring on your homeowners policy which would provide additional coverage in the case that it is ever lost (or stolen) again.
