I’m looking to buy a condo in South Carolina- Is there a special type of home insurance for condos? Ted G.- Dekatur, Tennessee

Filed Under (Home Insurance Q&A) by Home Agent

Dear Ted,

Yes, there is a special type of home insurance called condo insurance that you will need to purchase. Like a standard home insurance policy, your condo policy will provide coverage for your personal possessions, liability protection, cost of living coverage and MedPay.  Your dwelling coverage will be unique from a standard policy, however.  For condo insurance, your policy will cover damages from the studs of your walls, in.  Any damages outside of that area, need to be covered by a separate master policy usually provided by your Homeowners Association. This policy will cover damages and liability for the common areas of your building such as doors, hallways, the roof, stairwells, etc.

For more specifics on this type of policy, Contact a Home Insurance agent.

Thanks,
