Florida Home Insurance Reductions Continue

Although the Free Windstorm Inspection Program is over, Florida homeowners continue to sign up for windstorm inspections in order to get reductions on their homeowners insurance.

The program was initiated to promote awareness about windstorm damage caused by hurricanes.  The inspections are completed by Panhandle Windstorm Inspections (PWI) which is approved and certified to perform windstorm inspections in Northern Florida.

Homes that pass inspection may qualify homeowners for savings on their homeowners insurance policies.  While not every homeowner is eligible, the PWI said that the odds are good that homeowners who get the inspection will receive a discount.

A PWI state approved and certified inspector looks at eight critical parts of the home:

• roof, deck and attachments
• secondary water barriers
• roof covering
• roof shape and gable-end bracing
• roof to wall connections
• opening protection for exterior doors
• wall construction type
