Don’t Own? Renters Insurance Information

Filed Under (Renter's Insurance) by Editor

Recently the Ohio State insurance Department released some great tips for renters seeking renters insurance.

With the recent crash of the housing market- many former homeowners have lost their homes to foreclosure and are now renting homes or apartments as an alternative.  However, while homeowners insurance is not required on rental properties- renters insurance is always recommended.

Renters Insurance protects renters in the event that their belongings are lost in a covered peril.

The good things about renter’s insurance is that it is not very expensive in the grand scheme of things. Typically, policies cost between $15 and $30 per month depending on the level of coverage you need.

The OSID recommends asking about these variables with your renters insurance company:

  • What hazards are included in a plan and if there is a need for a separate policy for specific circumstances
  • If an insurance plan affects roommates, if any
  • How to determine value for items
  • What some of the insurance terms mean or what they include
  • What optional coverage might be available
  • How much liability coverage is included in a plan
