While everyone is preparing for holiday parties this holiday season- it’s often easy to forget about the common home insurance claims until it’s too late.
Don’t put yourself at risk-
1- Icy steps can be an accident waiting to happen- Especially if the steps were not in great condition to begin with. Make sure you and any guests have a safe path to enter and exit your home. (TIP: Sprinkle table salt on your steps right before quests arrive and leave)
2- Don’t Drink and Drive- If guests were consuming alcohol on your property- don’t let them drive! Because your provided the beverages- your are liable for an accident if one occurs!
3- Holiday Decorations-Holiday decorations like garland and tree skirts combined with festive holiday candles are a home-fire waiting to happen. Avoid open flames if possible, or keep candles and other luminaries under close watch.
4-Guests and Pets? Having a holiday party? While your dog may typically be friendly and cordial to guests- pets can act nervous/scared when there is a large number of people in their home. If you are having a party this Holiday season, consider keeping your pets in a separate room while guests are over.
5-Avoid Burst Pipes-Keep your home at a minimum of 65 degrees to prevent the pipes from freezing. Always know where your main shut-off valve is in case you need it in an emergency.
