Filing Medical Payment Claims Won’t Raise Your Premiums

Filed Under (Health Insurance, MedPay) by Editor

Medical Payments Coverage is the portion of home insurance policy that provides coverage for injuries sustained to visitors on your property where a lawsuit is not presented.  Medical Payments coverage usually provides about $1000 for each occurrence.  In addition, your deductible is not applied to this amount.

The good news is, filing a MedPay claim will not increase your premium. For example, the following happened to one of our agents:

“During a hurricane my husband and his friend went outside to try and pull down a branch that was ready to come through our bedroom window.  In the process, a tree fell on top of both of them. Luckily, their injuries were not life threatening, but our friend was rather banged up.  Since he had no medical insurance, I filed a home insurance claim and my MedPay coverage paid his doctor’s bills which came to about $600.  Once we submitted the doctor’s bills they sent the check right to our friend and our insurance premium was never affected.”

Remember that your MedPay only provides coverage for people who are not residents of your household.
