1- Fueling Your Ride- Are you one of those people who search high and low for the lowest gas prices in town before stopping to fill up? If so, good for you. If not, this is a quick way to save an easy $5/month or $60/year. Doesn’t seem like much? It adds up! I use a website called GasBuddy.com and do a quick search for gas prices in my area. As long as I don’t waste gas trying to find the cheapest price at the pump this tactic pays off!
SAVINGS: $5/Month
2- Groceries- Learning to be frugal at the grocery store can save you a nice chunk of change every month on your grocery bills. Always shop for sale items and most importantly- buy store brands where you can. I started doing this and found that I saved about $32 last month just by purchasing store brand canned vegetables, meats, toiletries, cleaning products, etc. You’d be surprised sometimes to see that you may prefer store brand products to name brand products- and your wallet will appreciate it too.
SAVINGS: $32/Month
3- Cut Your Mortgage Payment- Most people don’t realize exactly how easy this is. Remember, that usually your home insurance and property tax payments are bundled into your monthly mortgage payment. And while your property taxes probably aren’t going to budge (at least in the direction you are hoping) your homeowners insurance can almost certainly be slashed especially if you haven’t shopped it in awhile. At HomeInsurance.com we save customers about $46/month on average on homeowners insurance- it’s worth the few minutes to fill out a quote form and chat with an agent.
SAVINGS: $46/Month
4- Heating/Cooling Bills- Whether you have central electric or gas heat you can cut your costs on heating and cooling easily just by turning your thermostat down 3 degrees in the winter and up 3 degrees in the summer. We tried this at my house for 3 months and found we were saving $10/month on our gas heat bill.
SAVINGS: $10/Month
5- Save that Change! Once a week I empty my change purse from my wallet into our household change jar. Those coins (along with the ones I empty from my husband’s pocket while doing laundry) really start to add up. Last month alone we saved $8 so you can see how this would add up over the course of a year.
SAVINGS: $8/Month
Total Savings:
$101/Month OR $1,212/year!
