Many families across the country are wondering, “How will this President help me through my family’s current economic crisis?” Now that President Obama has been officially sworn in as President, it’s a good time to look back and review his goals for helping resolve the financial crisis that many typical American families are experiencing right now.
Three of his initiatives that will have a huge affect on American families if carried through are part of his New Energy Plan:
Weatherize One Million Homes Annually- One of Obama’s goals is to weatherize one million low-income homes each year for the next ten years to help reduce energy usage and waste. If successful, this plan could help lower energy usage across the country and potentially help moderate energy prices for all families. (Get home weatherization tips).
Emergency Energy Rebate- Another goal of our new leader is to provide an Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families in order to help families pay rising energy bills. The $1,000 rebate is expected to come from a tax on excessive oil company profits.
Green Jobs- A hopeful result of many of Obama’s initiatives is to create millions of new “green jobs” while accomplishing the construction of the Alaskan Natural Gas Line, his home weatherization goals and developing clean coal technology. According to Phil Agelides (2006 Democratic candidate for governor in California) in an article by Time magazine, a green job can be defined as a job that:
“Has to pay decent wages and benefits that can support a family. It has to be part of a real career path with upward mobility. And it needs to reduce waste and pollution and benefit the environment”.
