Drywall imported from China after hurricane rebuilding is reportedly causing an array of problems for homeowners in the Southern United States.
State health officials in Florida are looking into recent claims that a particular brand of drywall installed in hundreds of homes around the state is causing major health problems and causing electrical issues in home electronics.
Homeowners are complaining that the drywall, imported from China, is causing copper wires to corrode which in turn is making their appliances fail such as dishwashers, washing machines, microwaves and refrigerators.
Also, homeowners are complaining that the drywall is emitting a rotten-egg like odor and causing headaches, sore throats and other ailments.
Building officials in the area claim that the drywall was imported during a building boom in 2005 and 2006 when post-hurricane construction was at a high.
Other reports about the faulty drywall are coming from Alabama, Louisiana and Texas- other states that experienced major rebuilding efforts after being heavily affected by hurricanes.
