New survey results by Move Inc., shows that 18 percent of polled Americans are planning on purchasing a home this year to take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit recently passed by Congress.
The tax credit is for new home buyers or homeowners who are purchasing a home that will serve as their primary residence.
The poll also showed that one out of five respondents plan to take advantage of the new program recently passed by Congress to help prevent foreclosures.
This new trend is seen by some in the real estate business as a very good sign for the housing market.
“It’s not all doom and gloom. We found Americans are optimistic about home ownership despite concerns,” Move, Inc., CEO Steve Berkowitz said in a news release. “They’re doing everything they can, from reducing discretionary spending to pay their mortgages to planning to take advantage of the administration’s new program to stop foreclosures. They’re also working with lenders to modify loans.”
Homeowners seem to be split down the middle when it comes to whether the government is doing enough to stabilize the housing market. Forty-six percent said “yes” while another 43.5 percent said “no”.
