Does condo insurance provide liability coverage? Janet Y. Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Condo Insurance vs. Homeowners Insurance

Janet,

Standard condo insurance typically does offer liability insurance up to the limits of the policy. However, condo insurance is designed to meet the specific needs of condo owners and does differ from standard homeowners insurance. Standard condo insurance offers all of the coverages that a standard homeowners policy offers- yet with limited structural coverage.

Structural coverage in a standard homeowners policy would replace the entire structure of the home in the event of a covered loss. For condo owners, only the structure of the unit- from the studs in- would be covered under a condo policy.

For coverage on other  parts of the building like the roof, stairwells, entryways and boiler room, most condominiums will have a master policy that each condo owner pays into. This will typically cover the shared areas of the building not covered by the condo policy.
