Prevent Flood Damage from Leaking Pipes In Your Home

Homeowners who are concerned about flooding in their homes might want to consider purchasing a Flood Alarm or Flood Sensor which is a cost effective way to be notified of unexpected water before it does a great deal of damage.

Flood alarms, also known as flood sensors, can be used in a variety of scenarios where flooding water may cause damage to your home. They can be installed next to an indoor whirlpool or jacuzzi tub, in a basement next to the hot water heater or next to a sump pump. Most flood sensors on the market today are battery operated and will sound a loud alarm once water is detected in  the monitored area. This gives the homeowner time to shut off the water valve causing the overflow and prevent excessive water damage to their home. These basic systems cost anywhere between $10-$50 online.

Other more high-tech models not only sound a local alarm but also have a phone connection in place that will dial up to 3 phone numbers  to alert someone of the flooding in the event no one is home to hear the alarm. These systems tend to be priced between $100-$200.

Becasue flood insurance is limited in what types of water damage it will and will not cover- it important to protect your home from water damage even if you have flood insurance. For more information on Flood Insurance, visit http://www.floodsmart.gov/floodsmart/.
