If you’re looking for just one more reason to quit smoking this year, think about the savings. Aside from the rising costs of tobacco products across the country, keep in mind that you may also be eligible for a non-smokers discount which can save homeowners up to 10% off their homeowners premium.
Most insurance companies charge smokers more for home insurance because smoking is a fire hazard. According to the Texas Department of Insurance, 700 to 900 lives are lost each year to fire where cigarettes are the ignition source. Homes where residents are non-smokers are therefore less of a risk for insurance companies to insure.
So, add that on to your list of reasons to quit! Ten percent could mean savings of $100/year.
