If your relative dies and you inherit the house are you still covered with the homeowners policy until you decide deposition of the contents and the house?

Filed Under (Home Insurance Q&A) by Editor

The answer to this question is a tricky one. Technically, the home insurance policy should be in the name of the homeowner.  Otherwise, if a claim was filed, the homeowners insurance company could deny the claim. To be fully covered and protected- the homeowners insurance policy should be transferred into the current homeowners name. This might also depend on the specifics of your policy- so you should refer to the insuring agency for more information.
