The countdown has begun and if you are anything like me, you are ready to put this harsh winter behind you. But before you start packing away your winter garb, make sure your home is ready for the season change. A couple tips from your HomeInsurance.com Agents:
- Spring Showers- Saying goodbye to the snow will be nice but be prepared for April showers. Snow and ice can do damage to a roof over the winter so it’s a good idea to have it inspected. You don’t want a leaking ceiling to be your first clue that you have a problem.
- Get Ready to Air Out- One of the best ways to reduce indoor air pollution is to open up those windows when it gets warm enough. Dust off your window screens and make sure they are not in need of repair. Check windows for cracks or other issues.
- Filters- When your house is closed up for the winter it is a good opportunity for dust and other particles to fill up your heating and air vents. Replace your filters and clean out any floor vents that may have gotten dirty over the winter months. (This will help you save on your heating/cooling bills as well)
- Get a head start on yard work and save- Thinking about hiring a landscaper this spring to clean up your yard or remove an old tree stump? While it is still rather cool out, consider hiring a landscaper now and they may cut you a deal since business is probably slower this time of year. While it’s not time to plant yet, a good yard cleanup wouldn’t hurt.
- Don’t forget your car! It’s a good rule of thumb to get a tune-up every few months so why not get your auto in tip-top shape for Spring. Also, if your car has been exposed to snow, sleet and salt this winter, be sure to give it a good cleaning to keep the paint in nice shape.
- Give your Insurance Policy a Spring Cleaning- Last but not least, we recommend reviewing your home and auto insurance policies at least twice a year to make sure you are adequately covered. Not sure? Contact a licensed agent and see if your coverage and premiums are where they should be.
