Mintel Comperemedia recently reported some insurance industry news, as direct mail offers for policies saw an increase during the first quarter.
According to the marketing company, mailings for insurance offers accounted for 43 percent of the total seen during this year's first quarter, leading all other categories. In all, direct mailings were up 16 percent from the fourth quarter of 2009.
"While it is unlikely that we will get back to the mailing levels during the boom years, there is a good deal to be optimistic about," Mintel senior vice president Andrew Davidson said.
When comparing the first quarters of 2009 and this year, insurance mailings were up 8 percent. The first three months of 2010 saw 2.6 billion mailings from insurance companies to consumers, a sign providers may be more confident about the economy as a whole.
A recent report from LIMRA noted that sales of individual life insurance policies rose 10 percent during the first quarter of 2010 when compared to the same period last year. The firm said universal life policies led the improvement with an expansion of 17 percent.
