According to recent data released by the MIB Life Index, life insurance activity among U.S. consumers increased significantly in September.
The report shows that the rate of U.S. applications rose by 1.5 percent year-over-year in September. The rate has also risen 1.7 percent over the course of 2012, and is up 8.7 percent over August numbers.
The increase can be traced to a 2.8 percent jump in life insurance applications from consumers over 60, according to the data. Consumers younger than 44 also turned in 2.1 percent more applications than they did in September 2011, while those between the ages of 45 and 69 turned in 0.4 percent fewer applications.
According to LifeHealthPro, the large jump in applications between August and September can be attributed to a normal lull in industry activity during the summer. The jump in activity from August to September was higher than usual this year, but the slowed activity during the late summer months still led to a slow third quarter, with activity recorded at 0.8 percent less than 2011.
