A lawsuit filed earlier this week in Orleans Parish District Court accuses a heating contractor of negligence in its work on a New Orleans home that was damaged by fire last March, according to a report in the Louisiana Record.
Specifically, Louisiana Citizens and Property Insurance alleged that Kenneth Blum, of Blum Thermal Services, carelessly yanked a wire from the closet wall of LCPI policyholder Cara Ogg when working on her house. The damage to the junction box, LCPI's lawsuit asserted, was the cause of the fire which damaged Ogg's home.
LCPI, which paid Ogg a claim on the expenses incurred by the fire, has alleged that Blum, his company, and Lafayette Insurance are all responsible for the damage, and have asked the court to reward it with damages equal to the amount of that claim.
Ogg was nonetheless luckier than 15 New Hampshire residents who were displaced by a fire this week, according to local television news station WMUR. The damage from the blaze was significant, the TV station said, but no one was hurt.
