The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation has just recently released information regarding how many homeowners have filed property insurance claims in the wake of Hurricane Irene.
According to the report, 28,500 claims have been received, totaling $90 million altogether.
Some of the most significant claims came from western and central Massachusetts. For instance, in Hampden County, more than 600 claims generated damage totals worth over $2.5 million. In Worcester County, the damage cost approximately $10.6 million after 3,500 claims were filed.
"Dealing with an insurance company after a natural disaster can be a confusing chore during a difficult time," said Barbara Anthony, undersecretary of the office of consumers affairs and business regulation. "If a homeowner or business owner has a problem with their claim, they should call the Division of Insurance and seek help dealing with their carrier."
Other counties in Massachusetts where property insurance claims were significant included Barnstable, Dukes, Essex, Suffolk, Nantucket, Bristol, Middlesex and Plymouth. These counties are located in the eastern and southern portions of the Bay State.
