Homeowners insurance provider Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB), part of Munich Re, has pioneered a new energy-saving plan for consumers.
The plan, which involves providing insurance for cooling, heating, water and power systems, is designed to help consumers lower their energy consumption. Dubbed HSB HomeWorks, the program is meant to supplement a standard homeowners insurance policy.
According to HSB, the average homeowner spends more than $2,300 on energy bills annually. HomeWorks is meant to reduce that amount by helping consumers calculate their energy scores, find the lowest-cost energy supplier in their region and lower expenses overall. The plan is well-worth the cost when compared to the amount of money saved on energy bills, notes the provider.
Additionally, homeowners who reduce their energy footprint could help their state achieve a higher ranking on the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's annually-produced energy scorecard.
