The Pennsylvania Insurance Department offered a few tips for homeowners on the best ways to have a safe and happy Halloween.
According to the department, the potential for accidents in and around the home increases on the spookiest day of the year. In fact, during an interview with an industry insider, one police officer noted that more incidents occur on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Homeowners have the potential to incur huge costs and file unnecessary homeowners insurance claims if they're not careful.
The PID notes that homeowners should take extra care to ensure that the walkway leading up to their home is in good condition. If a trick-or-treater slips on a shoddy walkway and injures him or herself, the homeowners could be liable to file a claim to pay for their injury costs.
Furthermore, Halloween is a time that inspires young people to be scary in more ways than one. Occasionally, Halloween will bring out the real tricksters, who can cause damage by splattering a house with eggs or paint balls. Before Halloween day, homeowners should make sure that they have adequate insurance coverage to protect their homes should a prankster decide to have a little fun.
