Residents of one mobile home in the small town of Ridgeway, Virginia, were without a roof Tuesday night after what experts say was a strong gust of wind peeled it off the structure, according to television news station WSLS.

Ricki Mitchell told the TV station the event took her by surprise.

"I was just in shock. I never had anything happen like that," she said. "The whole house just shook and then I heard something flapping outside so I looked out the front door and it was blocked by my roof. I came outside to see and my whole roof was down."

Mitchell and her two children, who were inside at the time, were not harmed by the storm, WSLS said. While she told the TV station she had home insurance coverage on the structure, the loss of so many possessions was still troubling.

Nor was the storm affecting Mitchell and her family the only one to strike the American south in recent days. A tornado last night in Georgia killed one man in his car, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
