A few weeks after a damaging hailstorm swept through the St. Louis area, the number of claims home insurance companies are dealing with continues to grow.
The April 28 storm brought hailstones the size of baseballs in some regions, leaving dents and broken windows on many cars and causing roof leaks in some parts. The Associated Press reports auto shops say there has been so much demand that they can't stock enough glass to make all the repairs that continue to come in.
The AP says many streets are dotted with contractor signs as repairs continue. Homeowners say while their insurance coverage will help fix the damage, the issue still complicates their lives.
"It's something that’s beyond your control, like a death in the family," owner Crystal Anderson told the AP. "It causes undue stress and all you want to do is get your house back to its original condition."
The AP reports that the total number of claims could eventually reach 100,000. Already, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the area's two largest companies alone have received 60,000 claims.
