A fire that was reported early Friday morning in a house in Millvale, Pennsylvania spread to another home before it could be contained. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review described both houses as "destroyed," which could impact any possible home insurance claim.
The Tribune-Review also said that the position of the two houses, among a group of four at the top of a narrow lane, hindered firefighting efforts by restricting access to water. Millvale assistant fire chief Chuck Grimpe told the newspaper that "we're up here on a hill with one little lane." The paper added that six adults who lived in the burned houses were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that an electrical problem might have been responsible for the blaze, but Pittsburgh ABC affiliate WTAE said that the cause had not been officially released as of Friday afternoon. However, resident Janelle Hall told the news station that she had seen sparks emanating from the electrical junction box on her home. Hall's house was the first to catch fire, the station said.
