Authorities have not released an official statement on the cause of a fire that caused more than $400,000 in damage to a home in North Ogden, Utah - just north of Salt Lake City - this morning.
While no one was hurt in the blaze, several factors led to the fire causing extensive damage. A family member noticed at around 8 a.m. that there was smoke coming from the home's basement. According to firefighters at the scene, the fire then expanded and eventually began to come out through a bottom-floor window.
This, fire officials said, allowed the flames to take hold in the attic, burning the home from both above and below. Firefighters tried for around 90 minutes to battle the blaze from both inside and outside the home, but crews working within the house were forced out when it appeared the ceiling was about to collapse.
Roughly 20 firefighters - from the North View, Ogden, and Weber fire departments - were involved in trying to save the home.
