Larissa Stone, who served in the Iraq war, recently told Oklahoma television station KFOR she may have been victimized by shoddy work from a pest control company, which failed to find a serious termite infestation in her home's timbers.

According to the NBC affiliate, Stone was stunned that professionals from both Eagle Home Inspections and Oklahoma Pest Inspection and Extermination missed such an important problem. Eagle Home Inspections, for its part, told KFOR it is not a licensed pest control inspector and does not look for the damaging insects.

However, KFOR reported OPIE's pest control license expired soon after the company inspected Stone's home, and the owner of another such company, Oklahoma Termite Specialists, implies that OPIE may not have been very competent. Tim Britt told the news station it's important for potential clients to check out a company with the Better Business Bureau and any applicable state licensing boards.

According to KFOR, Stone's home insurance coverage will not provide reimbursement for the termite damage, leaving her on the hook for $15,000.

Termites were also at the center of another case, in which an Iowa couple successfully sued Orkin for almost $129,000 over a faulty extermination.
