Insurance advocates in Colorado are organizing a series of workshops to help area residents determine if their home insurance policies have sufficient coverage for them to rebuild in the event of a total loss.
Following the devastation of the Fourmile fire which swept through the area early this year, insurance experts set up three workshops in Boulder County to help residents better understand their property insurance policies, the Daily Camera reports. During the sessions, experts will review what's included in a home insurance policy, disaster preparations and how to make a home inventory.
"Every single time we have a wildfire, people come up short," Amy Bach, executive director of the nonprofit United Policyholders, told the paper. "If you live in an area where you're at risk for total losses, which is basically wildfires, you definitely need to be proactive and make sure that you're fully covered."
A survey by UP in September found that nearly two-thirds of the victims of the fire were underinsured, complicating the rebuilding process for many.
The Fourmile fire this past September was the most destructive in the state's history. More than 160 homes were burned in the wildfires.
