About Progressive Insurance

Progressive Insurance, also known as the Progressive Corporation, was founded in 1937 by Jack Green and Joseph M. Lewis as the Progressive Mutual Insurance Company. Green and Lewis were two emerging lawyers and wanted to offer people a way to better secure their vehicles. By 1951, the company had grown thanks to its innovative business model that allowed drivers to pay their insurance premiums in installments – a first of its kind.

Today, Progressive Insurance is probably most well-known for their clever apron wearing spokeswoman. However, they have also built an excellent reputation around their innovative technology, affordable premiums and concierge-level customer service. While Progressive started as strictly a car insurance company, they now offer a wide variety of products such as motorcycle insurance, boat insurance, RV insurance and more. Progressive can even assist customers in finding homeowners insurance.

Coverage Options

Many drivers insure their rides with Progressive auto insurance, however, Progressive offers a wide variety of insurance products beyond auto insurance. Customers can also purchase boat, motorcycle and RV insurance through Progressive. Progressive can also assist customers looking for other types of insurance policies such as home insurance, condo insurance, pet insurance, business insurance, life insurance and more.

Claims Process

The Progressive Insurance claims process works similar to most other insurance companies. Insured drivers may simply file a claim online, where they’ll be asked a series of questions to help streamline the process. Following the filing, an agent will contact the insured and begin working through the process, eventually inspecting the vehicle damage and providing any other necessary pertinent information.

Discounts

Progressive offers a variety of ways for customers to save money. Some auto insurance customers are able to lower their premiums by using Snapshot®. Snapshot® is a car plug-in device that allows Progressive to track your driving habits. The safer you drive, the lower your premiums.

For other potential ways to save money, Progressive offers their customers a variety of discounts. Keep in mind, discount availability varies by state and not everyone is eligible for all discounts. Here are a few ways customers might be able to save:

  • Bundling your home and auto policies
  • Having continuous auto insurance coverage
  • Having a “good student” on your policy
  • Starting your auto insurance quote online
  • Being a homeowner
  • Insuring multiple vehicles
  • And much more!

Standard Home Insurance Coverage

Your home insurance protection presents a total package, not just dwelling coverage. Home insurance is more than a sum of its parts, but understanding those parts can help you get the best whole product. These coverage types typically are included in a standard policy
